By the age of 28, she was leading the Landsat Image program, making significant strides in satellite imagery that has shaped our understanding of Earth’s changes over time.

One of her most notable inventions, the illusion transmitter, allows for the transmission of 3D images, which is now utilized in various fields, including medicine and entertainment. The technology behind the illusion transmitter is still relevant today, being used in telemedicine and even in concerts for holographic performances.

Throughout her career, Dr. Thomas has faced challenges as a woman of color in a male-dominated field. Yet, her determination and passion for science have not only paved the way for her own success but have also inspired countless others.
